20050211 - An Invitation from 1990s

An Invitation from 1990s

oldest prev next newest cast

Today's theme is from the homebrew game world.
From the late 80s to the early 90s.
Yes. Immediately before the coming and fashion of Capcom's Street Fighter series and SNK's NeoGeo.
There was a popularity game called side-scrolling (beat-em-up) action.
A typical title of those games is "Final Fight" that was released in 1989 for arcade by Capcom.

Beats of Rage is very attractive system for my generation who often played those game at the arcade and home.
In this system, we can create our original game by preparing images/sounds ourselves, and arranging them freely. Yes, this system is looking like that Mugen.
However, the game created from BoR system can be executed on DOS, Windows, Dreamcast, PS2, GP32 platforms.
I've got a deep interest about its significance of existence though I feel the system of BoR in the current state has a little inconvenience.

Hyper Final Fight that I drew in today's strip is one of those games created through such a process.
My impression for HFF is as I drew in the strip. That was not bad. But I felt that was a little flat to the taste than original Final Fight.
For a such matter, I wanna hope for the improvement of BoR that is its parent in the future.

We need a little consider about copyrights for using original's image/sound sources for restructuring old existing games.
However, if you have a lot of time and perseverance, the BoR system might become an effective expressive medium for you.
